Welcome to the CMO’s blog. The idea behind this is to provide you with some information about what’s happening in my sphere of influence.
The date at which we’re all supposed to be able to opt in (or out) of the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) is approaching all too rapidly. Though there are a number of hurdles to be overcome, we at IPN have become involved in some initiatives to trial the system and we are putting in place the relevant structures and systems to support the programme when it arrives.
IPN has been approached by the DVA to help promote their Co-ordinated Veterans Care (CVC) programme. Most IPN practices have been contacted about this programme which is aimed at Veterans who are Gold Card holders and are at risk of unplanned hospitalisation. Significant resources have been allocated to the CVC and though it involves some time and effort in preparing one’s practice, it is worth participating both in terms of the desired aim and remuneration. You can find more information about this programme at www.cvc.program.net.au.
Through talking to GPs within IPN, I have been made aware of a number of different resources we can draw on when talking to our patients, which I’d like to share with you. There is a wonderful guide to medical internet sites developed by one of our GPs, Dr Hans Blom, and supported by the Manly-Warringah Division of General Practice. It provides an excellent guide for patients and cliniciansalike to access sites to gain more information; critically, ensuring the data they access is accurate and reputable. There is also a guide to useful forms that can be accessed via the internet and whilst some of the information in specific to NSW, most of it is relevant wherever you practice in Australia. Please find the links below.

I’m currently developing a programme to provide educational activities to IPN GPs to assist in the CPD programme and I’ll keep you informed of the progress in this regard. I’m looking forward to visiting all of our IPN practices in future and speaking with you in person.
